In Memory of Private Matthew Adam Thornton

Matthew Adam Thornton was born in Darton on 3rd November 1983.  As a very keen sportsman he played at Sandal RUFC at junior/teenage level and had trails with Yorkshire, qualified as a snowboard instructor, worked at Premdor in Darton and was an active member at 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire regiment.  He passed out as a regular Army 1st battalion of the Yorkshire regiment before being deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.

Matthew always took time out to help others, both in social life and military; nothing was too big or small a challenge for him.  He was a credit to his family and friends and is greatly missed by all who who knew him.

The Barnsley Town Centre Races 'Event Programme' booklet is sold during the event with all profits going to Help For Heroes.  You can also donate directly to the Matthew Thornton Boundary Foundation via the JustGiving link.
